Hello All-

There is a work party scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd, at 10:00 AM. Backer’s need to be built for the Rifle and Pistol ranges. This is a great opportunity to get some volunteer hours!

2/13/23  [Rifle Range was reopened on Feb 17]
Hello all,

As of right now the rifle range is closed until further notice due to rule violations. Once again we are finding shotgun shell wads in front of the 25 and 50 yard bunker with clear sign of shot peppering the ties. Also there are remnants of targets being stapled above the backers on the ties with sign of rounds going over the top of the bunker. This is causing damage to the bunkers and is an unsafe practice along with a rule violation. As was talked about at the annual meeting it is the responsibility of all members to keep all actions on the property safe and by the rules. Also talked about was that we can not and will not tolerate these actions on our property. If any one wants to come forward with info on what was found today it will get the range open faster. If we hear nothing, the range will stay closed through the remainder of the week and possibly through the weekend. I know all of our members love our range as it is with being able to use it on their own schedule. Unfortunately if these actions continue to happen we will be forced to make some changes. There will be cameras going in sometime this year but unfortunately that does not help us in the meantime. This is an email I never wanted to send and hope I never do again but at this time we have no choice but to address these issues. I do feel bad for anyone that has to change their plans with the range being closed but I do hope you understand. Once we figure out more information there will be updates sent out.

If you have any info please email president@willowriver.org

Happy Holidays,

October 8

The Rifle Range bunker rebuild has been scheduled for Saturday October 23rd starting at noon.  We periodically have to replace the RR ties in the backstops that get shot through.  The range will be closed starting Friday evening to move materials onto the range and will remain closed until the work is finished.  The bulk of the work will be done with a rented skid steer, but some volunteers will be needed on Saturday to clean up.

Some work will also be done on the Pistol Range the following Saturday October 30th.  The posts for the target hangers need to be reset.

As usual, we will be opening the club Rifle Range to the public on the three Sundays prior to Wisconsin deer hunting for sight in.  There will be volunteers supervising and assisting on these days. If you use the range on these days you will have to follow the guidance of the range supervisors.

Please remember to check the Club calendar on the website for range closures.

Fall is here and the sun sets earlier every day.  Hopefully everyone can get out and enjoy some autumn days before winter arrives.  Leagues are over for the year, but activity at the club is high as people prepare for hunting seasons.

The club is a corporation and occasionally we review and update the club bylaws.  A committee worked on that over the summer and we anticipate adopting the revisions at the October meeting.  All members are encouraged to review them on our website and come to the meeting.  The existing bylaws are posted  on our website at:

https://willowriver.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/WRRGC-Bylaws.pdf

The proposed bylaws are:

https://willowriver.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Proposed-Bylaws-9-10-21-2.pdf

This email serves as the two week notice as required by Section 1 of Article XII of the current bylaws.

As usual we will be having a work party day to rebuild the bunkers on the rifle range this fall.  A date has not been set yet.  It will be posted on the club calendar soon.

April 23, 2021

Hello all,

With the weather slowly improving it is time to start organizing our summer archery and trap leagues and Rimfire Benchrest. The High School Trap team has been shooting for a month already on Monday evenings despite some rather nasty weather. The virus is still affecting things and it has not been decided yet whether or not we will be cooking in the clubhouse on league nights.

Summer Archery League:

Starts on Tuesday, May 4th and will go for 12 weeks. We take a week off with no shooting over the 4th of July. League shoot offs will take place on Sunday August 1st.

Sign up nights will be Tuesday, April 27th and Tuesday, May 4th. Online sign up is also available through Sign Up Genius by visiting this link:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d44aaae29a2fbc52-20211

Shooters must be club members and can shoot any time of the week, Monday through Sunday morning. The course is reset by volunteers Sunday afternoon/evening. Adult members pay $40 to shoot. Youth 18 & Under are free with a paid family membership. (Youth 18 & Under NEED to be covered under a family membership for liability reasons)

ALL payments (League fees & Membership Dues) MUST be paid by Week 2 (Tuesday, May 11th)

Shooters can form their own four person team or we will place you on one. Youth 18 & Under have the option to shoot on a team or as a single shooter in the separate youth league. We hope to see everyone there and have a great summer shooting.

Summer Trap League:

We shoot on Thursday evenings starting May 6th at 4pm and run through Sept 16th with a break on July 8th. We may have some Sunday afternoon shooting if there is enough interest. There will be an organizational meeting on April 29th with an opportunity for a practice round if we have enough volunteers to run the traps. Teams are 5 to 8 people and there is a team fee of $20. Participants must be club members. Rounds are $4 ea.

With the ammo situation being what it is, people may have trouble finding enough to shoot. We have a few cases that the club was able to purchase earlier in the year and will have it for sale with limits. Hopefully things will improve by summer.

Rimfire Benchrest:

The first Match will be Saturday, May 1st at 9am on the Rimfire/Pistol range. Every other Saturday morning after that.

As always, please check the calendar for events and range closures.

Trap League Captains,

We are getting close to another year of Trap shooting.  I have attached the general information regarding the league, as well as roster forms and work-night sign up sheet.  We will have an organizational meeting on April 29th, as well as an opportunity to practice.  As we have done in the past few years, this organizational meeting will be your opportunity to come and help SHAPE the league to what works best for all of us.  To be successful we need at least one person from each team to be present and assist us in our planning. Please feel free to share this information with you team members, and anyone else that you think would be interested in participating.  All participants must be members of Willow River Rod & Gun Club. There are many ways to be involved in this league so please consider sharing of your talents.

Joel DeKock, Ph.D.
